Moving to a foreign country is associated with a lot of work and great anticipation and in any case means a great change. Getting to know the new culture is exciting and challenging at the same time, because not every unknown behaviour is immediately revealed. And often you don’t even know what to ask about and still want to do as little wrong as possible.

A foreign culture also means a foreign language. Our intercultural imprint and language have a major impact on our perception. Some expressions or words cannot easily be translated into another language, but they can be symbols for certain intercultural characteristics. Or do you know the concept and special meaning of “Feierabend” or “Zeitpunkt”?

We are convinced that arriving safely and quickly integrating into the new environment will succeed if you deal with the new culture and language.

Take part in this seminar and acquire a feeling for the array of social behaviour, communication and etiquette in Germany. You will learn more about invitations, the role of the family, school subjects, how to get in contact with neighbours and a lot about the German business culture!

Our topics

We will compare intercultural basics about Germany with basic language skills referring

» social interactions, e. g. greetings
» meetings with colleagues and friends,
» behavior in shops, restaurants, e. g. ordering a meal,
» phrases and proverbs that reflect on German (speaking) culture and cultural expectations/implications

Add-on value

» You will rise awareness for the German language at multiple level: cognitive, emotional and communicative
» You gain insights in the correlation between semantics of the language (meaning) and cultural/social patterns in Germany
» You learn to communicate appropriately in diverse situations in your everyday life
» You will increase your interest and knowledge about varying aspects of life in Germany
» By using your German language and intercultural skills you will appreciate your expat life and benefit from your overall experience during the “German chapter” of your life
